I view therapy from a humanistic, trauma-informed lens. Interventions are eclectic but tend to focus on cognitive-behavioral, narrative, ego-state, solution-focused, and relational-cultural approaches. As a long-time writing teacher and certified “music nerd,” I am interested professionally in how various expressive arts intersect with my clinical work in ways that both build the therapeutic alliance and help clients gain insight into themselves and their relationships.
I help clients sort through and reprocess complex developmental, psychological and cultural trauma when it contributes to the symptoms they present. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is my primary method. I am EMDR-trained and working toward EMDRIA certification with an EMDRIA-certified supervisor.
I have have lived and worked in Colorado for 30+ years, first as a camp counselor not far from where this photo was taken, then as a high school English teacher--where I spent 18 years teaching every high school English course imaginable--and now as a school counselor and therapist. Along the way I ran a test-prep tutoring business and co-authored a Barron's guide to the ACT test...
...Personally, I'm a married father of 4--my children range in age from 3 to 21!-- which gives me plenty of perspective when it comes to young people. I love skiing, backpacking, golf, reading, Colorado sports, and cooking in my back yard for loved ones using my wood-fired, outdoor pizza oven.
